Mistico Hanging Bridges

Juan Carmargo

August 9th, with my Costa Rican family we took a trip to the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges. During this trip, we went through 15 bridges and six of them were hanging bridges of different heights and the walk to get to the other side. The bridges were built in the 1980s and 90s, the Germans came to help build the bridges during this time.

During the summer visiting the bridges it’s called the rainy season and visiting there the humidity goes up to 88-92%. When walking on the bridge it might be a little wobbly and you gotta stay at a pace you can walk at only a group of people can go at a time unless it ends up being more shaky. Jorge took us as a guide through this whole experience even though it was lots of walking up and going through the bridges and the heat but the views and wildlife we saw were beautiful. The forest that homes the mistico hanging bridges is home to 700 species including a Puma and Blue Jeans poison dart frogs which are few of the deadliest animals. The whole tour takes 2-3 hours but it is definitely worth it and the views you see are nice so is the waterfalls that go through the hike. This was truly an experience and getting out of comfort zone to go on a walk for hours and being sweaty but it truly is worth every minute.
