Exploring Rio de janeiro & Escadaria Selaron

From the moment we stepped off the plane in Rio i knew it would be so different from São Paulo. The first thing i noticed was the temperature difference! We headed straight to our hotel to drop off our luggage and check in. In Rio we will be staying in two hotels the first hotel is called Atlantis Copacabana and it is located beautifully between two of the most popular beaches in Río Ipanema and Copacabana. (Fun fact both of these beaches have songs named after them).

After checking in we immediately started moving to our first stop the beautiful Escadaria Selarón which are world famous steps which also happen to be a work of art by Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón, he made it to be a tribute to the Brazilian people and decorated each tile with art that depicted the beauty and culture of Rio De Janeiro and Brasil. It was amazingly beautiful and people couldn’t help to take pictures in front of every set of stairs. The stairs went up at least four flights and I decided to walk to the top with a couple other students and at the top of the stairs was this beautiful mural of the brazilian flag and there even was a man singing while playing guitar. The music accompanied with the beautiful art really showcased the beauty of brasil and the rich influence it has within the art and music world.
